I come from a family of teachers. The apple didn't fall far from the tree in that respect (so I tried to be clever in my play on words...you know teachers love apples right?). I grew up in a suburban town in northeastern Kansas. I'll probably end up staying here for the rest of my life, but my love of traveling and new experiences might possibly take me somewhere new.
I just graduated from KU (whooo!)
And I'll be starting my student teaching in August and I wanted to document any moments that are going to make me laugh, cry, scream, or want to throw my students out of the window. I want to learn from my mistakes and hold on to the moments that make me fall in love with teaching. I graduated in May from the University of Kansas with my Bachelor's of Science in Education. My concentration area is Biology, and in the fall I will be teaching Biology to freshman at Wyandotte High School in the Kansas City Kansas School District. It's going to be a learning experience...no doubt about that (KCK Public Schools are considered urban). But I know my enthusiasm and my ability to build strong relationships will get me through it. Update! I finished my student teaching in KCK and loved it! I think I might even apply for a job there...crazy I know! I'm about to start my second round of student teaching at Westridge Middle School in the Shawnee Mission District. It's not too radically different from KCK so I'll feel right at home.
This blog is mostly for myself, but anyone that wants to tag along on this journey is more than welcome!
Some other personal information...
I consider myself a "runner" (I just got back into it after some physical therapy for my knee, so I'm hoping to get back to 5Ks before August)
I'm a self professed nerd (I love science!)
I'm quirky (not my words...I was recently described as quirky by a good friend of mine at her bridal shower)
My mom is the only person that thinks I'm really funny (it boosts my self-esteem)
My family members are the most important people in my life....period.
I'm an old lady at heart (I knit, I bake, and I tend to have an early bed time)
